Flotation Depressants for Improved Selectivity

MetSoP provides flotation depressants designed to control unwanted mineral flotation and support improved concentrate quality.
Our MetDep range includes solutions for broad gangue depression and more selective applications across PGM and sulphide flotation circuits.
The Role of Depressants in Flotation

Depressants reduce the floatability of unwanted minerals, helping them report to the tailings rather than concentrate.

Effective depressant selection requires a balance between controlling gangue and maintaining valuable mineral recovery.

Our MetDep Range

MetDep TAC

A strong depressant developed for broad gangue control, including chromite, silicates and naturally floatable gangue such as talc.

MetDep TAC may be suited to applications where firm depression of multiple gangue minerals is required.

MetDep 22

A selective depressant designed to support gangue control while limiting the impact on valuable mineral recovery.

It may be suited to grade sensitive PGM and sulphide applications, including cleaner and regrind circuits.

Depressant Selection and Optimisation

The performance of a depressant depends on the ore, mineral associations, reagent interactions and operating conditions.

Our metallurgists consider:

  • The minerals requiring depression
  • Valuable mineral recovery
  • Concentrate grade requirements
  • Reagent type and dosage
  • Circuit position
  • Water chemistry
  • Interactions with collectors and frothers

Laboratory testing and on-site optimisation can be used to evaluate depressant performance under specific circuit conditions.
