KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement, and maintain Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments, and develop preventative measures, incident investigations, and corrective plans.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993) and other relevant regulations.
- Prepare and maintain safety files for internal use and client projects.
- Conduct safety inductions and training sessions for employees and contractors.
- Regularly inspect work areas to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and report on safety system performance, including statistics on accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
- Collaborate with management to continuously improve safety practices and policies.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certification in ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, or similar safety standards is highly advantageous.
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer, preferably in the mining, metallurgical, or manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of safety legislation and best practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safety behaviour across all levels.
- Competence in using Microsoft Office and safety management software.
