KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments, and develop preventative measures, incident investigations, and corrective plans.
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993) and other relevant regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain safety files for internal use and client projects.
  • Conduct safety inductions and training sessions for employees and contractors.
  • Regularly inspect work areas to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and report on safety system performance, including statistics on accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
  • Collaborate with management to continuously improve safety practices and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Certification in ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, or similar safety standards is highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer, preferably in the mining, metallurgical, or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safety behaviour across all levels.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office and safety management software.
